The Boileroom is the real deal when it comes to legitimate, high-quality alternative bands. A regular touring stop for The Subways, Scritti Pollitti, and Black Futures, this excellent venue has plenty of musical clout in its line-up. With its smooth wooden interiors and posters and memorabilia adorning the walls, music fans will feel right at home here. The venue even acts as an oriental restaurant during the day, serving up chow mein, curries and light bites and sharing options. Well worth a visit both for the music and the tastes!
For the festival heads, the Boileroom will be a part of Guildford Fringe Festival, taking music from all around the UK and bringing it to the people of Surrey. Highlights include a jazz night, poetry slam evening and several excellent bands.
When it comes to the big gigs, touring artists know to stop at G Live, Guildford’s thriving 1,000-seater auditorium. Packed with a barnstorming schedule of comedy gigs, community events, live music and academic talks, G Live is truly a top venue for enjoying some of the UK’s best live events. An excellent menu of pre-show dining options lets you really make a night of it, and their family shows let you even take the little tykes along!
With the auditorium’s retractable seating, hydraulically-operated orchestra pit and natural wood sprung floor, any type of event can find an excellent home in Guildford’s top venue. So dream big, get your tickets and see if you can pick up some gigging tips from the cream of the UK’s live music scene!
For the pianists among us, the Tickled Ivory has a quite unique calling card: an absurd line-up of excellent musicians who regularly enchant audiences with their piano skills. Pianists including Dino Baptiste, Carl Sinclair and Jack Duxberry are some of the best in the world, with credits including Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones and Jools Holland between them.
Besides the incredible musicians, the bar boasts a marvellous atmosphere and unique decor. An upside-down piano hangs from the ceiling, wooden banisters and guard rails roll around the outer ring of the room, and little lights twinkle from the ceiling. It is a truly top-class venue.
Not content with being just a piano and wine bar, late at night the pianist exits and the DJ’s emerge. Open until 3AM, the venue offers the best of both worlds when it comes to music, both an atmospheric place to sit and chat, and a paradise for dancers and music lovers.
If you’re looking for a cosy pub to settle down in and listen to some great tunes, The Star Inn is the place for you. Serving up great live music for over 400 years, it has an incredible heritage and is well-suited to folkies and singer-songwriters. It has an outside smoking area, open fireplace, and wood-stove burner, as well as a great selection of Kentish cask ales.
Running events with Rebel Promotions, including work with bands such as Verdelet, Fires of Tartarus, Exquisite Ending, The Star Inn is one of the finest places around for enjoying the best live music Guildford has to offer.
